memories food memories
It has been 25+ years since we moved back to the states from Malaysia. While I was in Malaysia I had opportunity to try this fruit called Durian. It took me few years to try it and I never ate it at home as My mom couldn't handle the smell. It is a very stinky fruit. Actually by the time we left I didn't mind the smell so much but it is a strong, overpowering smell. It is so strong in fact you can't take it on a plane. So getting it anywhere that it doesn't grow is all but impossible. So I thought I was pretty much never going to get to have that flavour ( British spelling there) again. However yesterday I got to! One of the waitstaff is from the Philippines and he found some durian ice cream at a local Asian market and brought it into work for me. It was a yummy taste from the past! I had forgotten how it stays with you for a while afterwards but it was still yummy. It even still had the smell much muted as it was in the ice cream but man it was awesome!. Most everyone in the kitchen tried it. I will write more on their reactions later. It was just really neat to have that flavour again.
