Rodeo with CP

So here is the promised post about what CP and I did at the rodeo…unfortunately I can’t get to the video yet. I have discovered the problem and will hopefully be getting it fixed here in the next week or so till then the pictures will have to do. Most of the pictures are from the carnival I had only taken one at the rodeo itself when I discovered that I had zooming capabilities on my phones video so switched over to video. On the plus side of that is that there is at least one embarrassing photo of me in the group…but more on that later. So we did not just go and see the rodeo and Alan Jackson we went and did just about everything they had to offer. We got there about 10:30 after having some adventures with the H.O.V. lane ( we stayed on it a bit too far and ended up driving through downtown a bit while we weaved our way through one-way streets trying to get to where we needed to be…a freeway any freeway would do) After wandering around the not yet open carnival we found our way to the cutting horse championship I found it quite amazing how talented the horses were I think that the horse and it instincts and talent were more at play in there then the ability of the cowboy or girl. That was one event that had some really flashy fun chaps being worn. Wish I had thought to get out my camera…we wandered around the exhibition halls looking at all the venders and checking out several of the more educational ones. Spent some time watching a milking demonstration done the modern way with the vacuum pump.

We learned that a cow can produce 5 gallons of milk a day for about 300 days and can have a calf a year for about 15 years or so. CP was wondering what happened with the calf did the cow both nurse and get milked or was the calf taken away and if so what was the calf fed? So after the demonstration we went up and asked. We were told that the calf was taken away because a calf only nurses for about 1 to 1 ½ gallons a day so they were allowed to nurse the mama cow would stop producing as much milk. For the first couple of weeks the mother’s milk has antibodies in it for the calf and can’t be used for human consumption so the calf is bottle fed with its mother’s milk. Thought that was pretty neat even though the calf isn’t able to nurse from it’s mama it still gets its mamas milk.

We also did a…treasure hunt? Don’t know what else to call it we went to three different reliant energy booths spread out all over the rodeo/carnival/livestock show grounds and when we had bee nt o all three we got a free t-shirt. Also got a picture taken at one of the booths that I need to get on their site and capture…CP already got a copy of it so I need to go in as him and get another one. When I do I will figure out how to get in on here and post it.
At the different vendor booths we got all kinds of free things from pencils to computer games to wildflower seeds.
At the carnival I got my rodeo tradition…

a caramel apple! This year’s had nuts I don’t always do nuts but hey this year was special in many ways…
One way it special was that I got on a couple of rides…

CP on the first ride “The Storm” wasn’t all that bad of a ride my legs were a bit wobbly after it was over and it took a bit to get my legs under me properly again but not bad. The second one however….


“Gforce” hmm what can I say..? We shall let the pictures speak for me…

I was just glad I hadn’t gotten the caramel apple yet. (oh and CP? Thanks for texting it to me so I could post it for all to see)
In spite of throwing up after the one ride it was a really fun day and we played a few of the carny games and won a few ( 5) stuffed toys here is CP with one of them….

We also checked out the Gascar crazy animal races…

We raced in the Nascar simulator I won the first race CP the second and then we quit. I actually like that we didn’t race a rubber race better this way.

The rodeo itself was good we were seated kind of high up but right over the rough ride chutes so we had a decent view of the bare back and saddle bronc riding, and the bull riding as well.. The calf scramble was set up on our end of the arena but the mutton bustin was on the far end from us. But it didn’t matter everything was on the huge screens so we could see it all.
This was the first year they had mutton bustin as part of the rodeo itself. In mutton bustin it is 4-6 year old holding onto a sheep for all they are worth trying to stay on for 8 seconds but the one who stays on the longest whether they make it to 8 seconds is the winner. It was hilarious to watch the young kids holding for dear life for all of maybe 3 seconds. They were out and giving it their all maybe not loving the falling off part but seeming to enjoy the rest of it.
The concert portion was pretty good as well. Alan Jackson has had a long career so there were of course songs he didn’t get to sing but over all I enjoyed it very much. It was a good day with good company. I will probably remember more stories and post more later or maybe not…
