Before I get to the meat of this post I must back up a little bit so you understand how exciting it was for me to even be out walking on the day of the adventure.
Last Sunday, well no not actually last Sunday...hmmm...how to state it? Ah! Week ago last Sunday I got sick. REALLY sick. Not sure if it was food poisoning or what but I was projectile vomiting. Not fun with or without the lap-band but with the lap-band it is also dangerous. It can cause slippage of the band which means a trip to the operating room. So Sunday I do all I can to stop it but end up at my general practitioners office Monday. Now as I have been without insurance for several years and thankfully also managed to be healthy I had not been in to see him in over 2 years regardless of that I was still an established patient. Anyway, I go in and see him for all of 4 minutes in that time I mention that I had surgery in January and had adjustable lap-banding. I mention lap-band several times in fact even stated that it was the only reason I was there otherwise I would have just stayed home and dealt but with the band that is not an option. Mainly I stated that because he was treating me like "what are you even doing here wasting my time?" turns out he was wasting my time and money. He did not ask anything about banding so I assumed ( we all know where that leads...) he understood until at the end after he had given me my prescription and I was walking out the exam room he says " this projectile part has me concerned it usually means there is an obstruction narrowing the outlet of the stomach...if it doesn't clear up in a couple of days you need to come back in" I wanted to scream "NO, DUH! WHAT DO YOU THINK THE LAP-BAND IS YOU IDIOT!" I didn't not really sure what I said but it was something to the affect of that is kind of what the lap band is...an obstruction. then I get hit with the bill $75 for 4 minutes! At least I got some phenergan out of it but still! If he had asked me I would have gladly told him about it but he just sat there treating me like a number and made himself look like a fool. I am going to be pro-active in this and at my next appointment with my surgeon ask for something to take to his office to educate them a bit and I am writing a letter to them because the group needs to know. Anyway, it still took another day to stop throwing up even liquids and because of swelling was on nothing but liquids for a couple of days after that. On the plus side of all of this is I lost a bit more quickly than I would have without being sick. I lost like 10 pounds in 5 days. Not putting it in my official weight yet cuase that is only from my surgeons office scale.
It was Wednesday before I had energy to go for a 2 mile walk, so I was excited to be back out there again. Plus I was doing laundry and was trying to get back to move things from the washer to the drier in less than half an hour. So I was moving at a clip doing about a 13 minute mile in the dark when I trip on some dirt that was piled on the sidewalk. I tumbled about 15 feet from where I started tripping leaving a good section of shin skin behind. thankfully as I lay on my back assessing the damage my back was fine, my neck and head were fine, my arms were fine, my legs? Well... they were another story. At least the right one was, the left leg was fine. The right had left the skin behind and the calf well it felt like it had been ripped out of the bone. I knew it hadn't but it HURT. So I very gingerly rolled over and tried to stand figuring if it was anything really bad standing would be impossible. I stood and walked the rest of the way home and finished my laundry when I walked into the laundry room the other lady in there gasped and I looked down and saw for the first time in light the damage. Pretty knarly. As the days passed the bruises appeared, lots of them! In places I have know idea how they happened but all is healing. I went out walking again the very next day and took a flashlight with me! Lesson learned! I think. :) Even went dancing on Friday with the sore calf and all. Funny thing is Saturday after all the dancing I was no longer owner of a sore calf! you ever think that you would like to see an instant replay of something? Well this tumble is definitly high on my list of instant replays if I ever get a chance.
