Well, thought it was time to explain what the heck I was talking about when I mentioned the event last posting.
"The Event" is a half marathon! I am in training to walk a half marathon in January, 2007. A half marathon is 13.1 miles. I am doing it during the Houston Marathon, they offer half and 5/10ks to be done at the same time as the marathon is running. I need to be finished in 4 hours. I am aiming to be walking about 3.5-4mph walking pace by then. I am doing about 3 or so right now but need to really do a long day and gauge it from that. It is nothing really to keep pace over a mile or two but the trick is to keep it over the long haul. The nutritionist is finding out for me what kind of things I can and need to do to have the energy (carbs) I need to complete the walk. Both she and my surgeon are supportive and see no problem with me doing this. They and I just want to make sure I do it in a healthy manner. When one can only eat 3-4 ounces at a time and is getting between 1000-1200 calories per day you have to make sure you get what you need just for daily life and all the more for a physical challenge like this.
One of my good friends is moving and I was able to buy her exercise bike from her. So I have now added about 10-20 minutes a day of biking to my exercise routine. It is in the room with my computer so I bike while waiting for the computer to turn on and while downloading things. My computer is not terribly slow but there are slow segments :) so I use those to be active!

Confucius once said,"A thousand-mile journey begins with the first step". You have started with some great steps--now this marathon. I wish you the best of luck. But, remember, whatever, steps we take,be they under supervision or not, "Whatever you can control what goes into the mouth, you can reduce the waist." Nothing goes to waste, dear, when you have your own discipline....your strong desire to be a beauty weight with or without supervision. Self-discipline in weight control by dieting or missing a meal a day slowly can really give a remarkable change for a better health. I believe you can improve healthwise.
Take care....
