I had for the second year in a row a non-traditional thanksgiving day. Last year I was sitting at the hospital with my Mom. I managed to scrounge up a piece of pumpkin pie last year which masqueraded as Thanksgiving dinner. This year I worked. I was invited to share Thanksgiving day of whatever part of it I could with several families but declined all because I just didn't know for certain what time I would be off and how the day would go and if I would even feel like doing anything at all. Had kind of set up to go see a movie but was too beat to go do that besides there wasn't what I would call a Thanksgiving day movie out. I mean I have NO desire to see Twilight and The Boy in the Stripped Pajamas just seemed like it was a bit on the serious side for that day. So no movie this year either. One of the wait staff/bartender from work invited me over to her place for dinner after we were done with work and I did go do that. It was fin relaxing and there were NO family politics in play with them. As it was just her husband, daughter, her and I none of that extended family/multiple generational junk you typically have at holiday dinners. I got to have good conversation, good food and a relaxed time it was great!
At work things were what I would classify as easy hard. Hard because it was a buffet and lots of food so lots of prep pots and pans and there were two seatings. easy because there were no where near the number of Mothers day and there were only two seatings. On Mothers day and Easter both I didn't get a chance to take out trash or do any pots and pans over in my sinks. On thanksgiving I got to take out trash before the first seating and during a quick respite between seatings got over to do the pots in my sinks. Now I didn't have to take out the trash at the end because one of the cooks did that ( the lady I went to dinner with called that "the Thanksgiving Miracle" LOL though actually normally for events like this they do pitch in with trash duty). As for the pots and pans? Well, I commented to FM that every time I walked over that way to put up something I wanted to cry because I just couldn't get there yet and things were piling up. SO he asked CP if he could go send JB in to do my pots while CP finished up carving the last few moments. So JB came in and did pots for a bit then when he left CP took over. Not only did he do the pots but he cleaned up my sinks when he was done! I would have been probably another hour if I had had to do those pots. I really do work with a great bunch guys. CP brought a tear to my eye. You see when we have big things we don't usually keep the compost buckets going because it just would be too much and get in the way. So when he was going to take down the salad bar he took with him a bucket to fill with the compost-able materials. Our compost heap is getting some really nice stuff in it and we are gonna have some great stuff for our gardens in the spring!
Teaser alert! Tomorrow or near future post will be about that fishy smell....
