Yesterday Rabbit Girl her father and I went to a MFAH exhibit of the masterpieces of French painting from The Metropolitan Museum of Art: 1800-1920. It was AWESOME! It featured works by Monet, Van Gogh, Manet, Picasso, Renoir, Degas, Corot, Courbet, Bastien-Lepage, Cezanne, Ingres, Matisse, and several others. Some of my favorites were a painting by bastien-Lepage titled Joan of Arc, a Van Gogh painting titled Cypresses, and there were these three done in a type of painting where it is a bunch of dotting with a stiff brush and three or four colors to make these intricate beautiful scenes they were all three done by different painters. One was by Georges Seurat called a Sunday on La Grande Jatte. It was a wonderful uplifting inspiring exhibit. there were, of course, a few nudes included, but that has never been an issue for me. The nudes of the true art world are beautiful works of art and commentary on the beauty of the human form NOT pornography or anything like unto it. In fact one of my favorite paintings was one by Cabenel "The Birth of Venus" which was of a nude form. It took us about 2 hours to go through the entire exhibit, they had headsets you wore and at certain points you punched in a number and got to hear more about that painting or painter or it was a marvelous music stop for you to enjoy as you looked at the paintings. Wish I could go about twenty more times to soak it all in.
After the MFAH we drove over to IKEA which really could have been a day of it's own. IKEA is a Swedish company that does affordable furniture and home decorating items. they have two floors the top floor has the show rooms...you go from through living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms, offices, and even bathrooms. With all this furniture and storage/organizing stuff all set up to show you and when you finish the top floor you end up by the bathrooms/restaurant/stairs and elevators to refresh you and get you down to the area where you get all the things you saw put together upstairs. Hard to really explain it and do it justice lets just say if you ever get a chance to go check one out do because at least the one here in my neck of Texas is awesome and a sight to see.
Today I am being a bit bad and just attending one hour of church so I can go to the Astros game, hey I couldn't turn down FREE tickets on the third base dugout could I? Well maybe...but I didn't! Update...they lost! It was still a great time going to see them and being that close we had primo seats dugout third base side about even with the pitcher. WOW were they awesome seats or what?!?!!
I will be posting a few pictures soon from the game and other activities. As soon as we get them either developed or downloaded.
