This morning I walked in my first official 5K!
It was a wonderful experience. I was worried going in that I would get lost or be the last one done or get hurt or not be able to finish the course. All of which were really rather silly things to worry about. The Course was well marked and with people doing a half marathon at the same time and on the same basic course I would be done at least before the last of them. As for not finishing, don't know where that thought came from ( actually I do and HE can just stay behind me!) I walk a 5k everyday so why I would even entertain the thought of not finishing one just because it is official is beyond me! But all is well! I did not get lost, injured, or even finish last in the 5k people. I finished it in under an hour which was my goal to be done in 59:59 or less and I did it in 53:something. I was so excited by the 53 I forgot to look at the seconds! The only problem I have now is where and when to do the next one. I am hooked! I am having a bit of shoulder pain which I find weird but otherwise all is good. The course there in Huntsville is rather hilly and the first (and worst) one is right at the starting line when I got done with that hill I had almost psyched myself out of it and was wondering what in the world had I gotten myself into! But I stopped racing the runners and starting walking my race and got it done! averaging about 17 minutes a mile which is right where I wanted to be at this point in training for the half marathon. I am so psyched now to continue my trainign and get to do other races and walks.
Well, got to get to work so more on this whole experience later.
