to fill or not to fill? THAT is the question!

My doctors visit went really well today! :)
I have lost another...drumroll please! Another eight pounds! Which brings my total post surgery to 37 pounds my total wieght loss to 51 pounds! Remember I lost fourteen pounds in the five days prior to surgery because of that lovely liquid diet he had me on. Anyway you slice it it comes to a whomping 51 pounds gone!
So did he "adjust" or "fill" me this time? Well he asked three questions...
Can I eat Chicken?
Do I feel restriction when eating?
and Am I losing 6 to 10 pounds a month?
Since I answered no to chicken and yes to the other two I did not need to get a fill done today. He said that it may be another 2 to 6 months before the next one is needed. Which fine with me I think there are those patients who expect of want fills everytime I am not one of those! Everytime he adjusts the band it means I am on liquids for the rest of the day and into the next day possibly depending on how I react to the new restriction. Liquids are not fun! Plus I am at this point barely to the point with the last adjustment that I am not having issues with regurgitating my food. I mean for a little bit there it was happening enough to have one of the fellows at work ask pinkie about it. But the past couple of weeks I have been able to eat as long as I am good about not getting hungry so I don't scarf my food down and use my baby spoon. So I was not disappointed about not getting a fill this time I actually was not expecting to get one.

This whole process really is a matter of not just the surgery but also of training myself on the new way of eating. There are a lot of rules with eating now.
No drinking with food. In fact no drinking 20 minutes before or an hour after eating. This rule means I have to be very aware of my eating so I can get in my water for the day. Working at a job where I may spend all day out in the hot sun makes water a very, very, very important factor.
Eat slowly--taking up to 45 minutes to eat 3-4 ounces of food.
Eat small bites and chew them completly. I found that the best way to not get too big of a bite is to use a baby spoon so I must have one with me at all times!
Do not get hungry so I must eat every 4 hours or so.

But it is worth it when I get on the scale, look in the mirror, or put on an outfit that did not fit but now does!
It is worth it when I can dance all night and not have back and foot pain.
It is worth it when I don't have to move or suck in for someone to slide past me.

I LOVE your baby spoon idea - I never thought of that before!!!!! I going to try that! *now ramsacking the silverware drawer looking for the baby spoons*

Wonder what the boys will have to use now? lol!!!

I'm glad things are going so well for you. I'm glad that you waited to refill it too if you're just now adjusting to the last fill. You don't want to be too hard on the other parts of your body (thinking of your esophogus *sp* here).

HUGZ!

Must be honest here I never would have even thought of a baby spoon unless my doctor told me that was the best way to get the right size (very small) bites and to slow down the whole eating process. It is amazing how much longer just eating with one takes! Even if you don't chew chew chew and put it down between bites!

I have to tell you something. At the health seminar they kept feeding us all these foods to try (showing us that health food IS tasty) and I noticed that it was taking me WAY longer to finish than the rest of the people... I was VERY proud of myself!
